Explaining knowledge intensive firms’ performance through internal factors: evidence from an IT consulting firm

2022

Our research contributes to knowledge-intensive firms research streams. We propose an explanation of their performance based on organizational design theory and the resource-based view. Through a case study on an IT consulting firm in France, we examined the impact of a coherent organizational architecture and a cognitive asset on the performance of the firm. The results show a complementarity between a coherent organizational design and a meticulously formed and maintained human resources asset to explain the performance of an IT consulting firm.

New job roles have emerged in many firms to handle the challenge of the global knowledge economy. But despite the developments, there are still gaps in literature and divergent views about the subject of knowledge and how it can be created. Knowledge is an abstract term that captures the art of knowing and what is being known, is difficult to study (Davenport and Völpel 2001). Knowle…

On the link between urban location and the involvement of knowledge intensive business services firms in collaboration networks

2013

Knowledge intensive business services firms can play a key role in modern economies by linking localized collaboration networks to global knowledge flows, and by actively serving in support of knowledge diffusion across institutional and sectoral divides. The extent to which they do is dependent on the markets, partners and human resources available locally. This paper uses the unique establishment-level innovation data available in Norway to investigate whether location in urban labour market regions influences the geographical scope of collaborative linkages maintained within and outside the realm of clients. It proceeds to consider whether the diversity of partner types used locally, dom…
